What makes N3 difficult

The gap between N4 and the JLPT N3 exam is larger than the gap between any other two levels, and most beginner textbooks stop before they cover N3 content. Grammar points now differ by nuance, so you have to choose between ように and ために, or between はず, べき and わけ. The challenge comes from understanding the context and knowing which one is correct at that given moment.

Keigo appears for the first time, along with causative and causative-passive forms. Reading passages are long enough that you can run out of time even when you understand them. The speed for listening audio gets much closer to natural speed and may use contractions or words that do not appear in most textbooks.

How this course helps

The tough areas in the JLPT N3 exam each get their own dedicated teaching time.

You work on the grammar points that look similar side by side so you learn to separate them, while keigo and the causative forms are taught with the sentence patterns that appear most often on the exam. You learn how to scan an information-retrieval question and what to do with a passage when you do not know every word in order to complete them in time.

Listening practice uses near natural-speed audio with contractions from week one to get you accustomed to how the audio clips in the exam will sound like.
