What makes N4 difficult

The JLPT N4 exam has roughly twice the vocabulary and kanji words compared to N5, and some of the grammar does not have English equivalents. あげる, くれる and もらう all involve giving or receiving, and the correct one depends on who is speaking about whom. Verb pairs like 開ける and 開く are tested directly and are easy to mix up. と, ば, たら and なら can all be translated as "if", but you cannot swap them freely. Reading passages are longer than at N5, and plain form appears in both the reading and listening sections, which is a problem if you studied mainly from polite-form material.

How this course helps

Each of the tough areas in the JLPT N4 exam get their own dedicated teaching time. You practise giving and receiving verbs, transitive and intransitive pairs, and the four conditionals side by side, so you learn to tell them apart rather than memorising them one at a time. Listening practice uses a mix of masu-form and plain-form from the start, while kanji is grouped by shared readings to get you accustomed to recognizing them. Your weekly mock tests show you which grammar points are still costing you marks so you get ready before the test.
